Decorating Ideas

I’m always asked for home decorating ideas, from how to decorate a kitchen and bathroom, to how to decorate a small apartment.  I say start with your life’s experiences, education, travel and so forth.  You see, decorating your personal space incorporates all these with your very own personal style.

Decorating starts with your personal style which is simply a reflection of YOU.  It’s an expression of what you really like in your space, what make’s you comfortable, what makes you smile, and so forth.

Take a trip to your local furniture stores and designer showcases.  You are certain to find what you really like by shopping the “vignettes” that are displayed.  Note the design style, furniture arrangement and home décor accessories chosen in each of these vignettes.

Start shopping in design magazines and clip out pictures you like.  These pictures will inspire your creative senses.  Study the architectural features in the room, furniture styles, window treatments, color schemes, upholstery and so forth.

Note the lighting fixtures and accent accessories used in the space.  Ask yourself what do you like best and least about each of the pictures or in the vignettes you are shopping?  You will begin to grasp tons of decorating ideas to incorporate into your own space.  Your personal style will shine through in your selections.
