Course Track #10: Adding Finishing Touches With The Right Home Accessories
Quite simply, accessories make a house a home. They are personal, selected by us and truly reflect our own personal style. They are accents of texture, style, color and design that say who we are and what we like. And by surrounding ourselves with what we love, makes our space comfortable, inviting and great to come home to.
Accessories are the lamps we choose, the soft area rugs we sink our feet into, the silk designer pillows we bought from India, the pottery we picked up in Italy, or the artwork we hung on the wall. All are a representation of us, by our travels, our experiences, our lives, all collected, to be displayed and shared by all.
Of course, to properly display all these cherished items, can be learned. Having too much can pose a problem, and give a cluttered, chaotic mess.
Choose your accessory accents according to your design and color schemes. Of course, they don't have to all match in color and style, just be sure they do relate well with each other.
Contemporary styles call for "less is more", using clean, simple lines with few accents. Traditional styles call for "more is better", by adding a bit more, but remember to not reach the cluttered look.
Accessory ideas are: pillows, blankets and throws, rugs, pictures, baskets, wrought iron, artwork on pedestals, artwork on walls, lamps and other lighting fixtures, plants, candles, glassware, pottery, screens, silk plants, trees and flowers, dried flowers, tapestries, painted chests, mosaic tiles in walls and flooring, mirrors, shelving units, accent chairs or furniture, antiques and more.
